Queen Elizabeth national park

Queen Elizabeth national park was initially named Kazinga channel national and established in 1952 and was rename Queen Elizabeth after the visit of the Queen in 1954 since that time to been a famous park for game viewing across East Africa and Africa widely.

Queen Elizabeth national park is Uganda’s most famous protected area and best traveller’s destination. The rich biodiversity to mention the beautiful crater lakes, extensive savannah, the natural forests and fertile swamps thus making it a fantastic site for game viewing, primate watching/chimpanzee trekking and 600 bird species.

Savannah vegetation within the park harbour Cape buffalo, Uganda kob, waterbuck, warthog, lion, leopard, hyena, giant forest hog as well as elephants. Topis can only be discovered in Ishasha and forest primate found in Kyambura gorge in addition to Maramagambo forest which is near the park walls.

“There are types 57 of vegetation,” Geographers said. The park has five levels of vegetation thus bushy grassland, Acacia woodland, swamp vegetation and forest grassland at kyambura gorge.

It is approximately 250m from the plains that give a magnificent view of the park, legendary mountains of the moon commonly known as “Mountain Rwenzori” along the Kazinga channel giving clients a closer view to the 2 great lakes that is George and Edward.

Queen Elizabeth Park is 1978km large and it takes 5-6 hours’ drive from Kampala via Mbarara town to the destination. It can be reached on a dirt road via fort port town home city to the famous park to chimpanzees, it can reached by flying from Entebbe international airport to kasese airstrip then ground transfer to the one of the lodges as you wait for your next activities.

In addition to accessibility, the park can be accessed from Kampala using either a tarmac through Mbarara which is 420km or Fort Portal via Kasese which is 410km. the park can also be reached via Ishasha sector, which is south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and a home for famous tree climbing lions.

The park attractive views at glance is proudly supported by presence of Lakes Edward and George which are linked by Kazinga channel and other attractions.

The park is also located close to mountain Rwenzori with closer views to the beautiful crates lakes that winding through the rolling hills, the panoramic display of the Kazinga channel giving you an awesome view of the hippos, buffaloes, elephants and several bird species lined up at the shores while on the game drive.

The park has two interesting sectors for game viewing thus Kasenyi and Ishasha sector plains. This Ishasha sector is vital for tree climbing lions resting on trees waiting to pounce on the Uganda Kobs and other preys within the national park.

Apart from a variety of wildlife attraction, Queen Elizabeth national park also boasts of attractive heritage and cultural history. There are numerous opportunities for travellers and tourists to visit the local population. Cultural/local visit play a significant role for entertaining in terms of local music and cultural dances.
