4 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari, Spend 4 days in two of Rwanda’s most outstanding and unmissable safari destinations. Your safari starts off in the scenic City of Kigali, touring the genocide memorial sites, Art Centers, and bustling market of Kamironko as well as tasting some of the country’s renowned local cuisines. Later head to the Eastern Province to explore Rwanda’s only savannah-dominated National Park- Akagera to sight the big five game, lots of antelope species, Masai giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and a plethora of bird species. During the three days in Akagera National Park, you will undertake game drives, boat rides, scenic viewing, and wildlife photography before you return back to Kigali.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in the vibrant City of Kigali
Welcome to Kigali, the gateway into the land of a thousand hills (Rwanda). You will be met by our Airport representative who will assist through immigration and customs before handing you over to the driver who will then take you to the Hotel. Time permitting, check out the Kigali genocide Memorial Center for an introduction to the painful 100 days of 1994 that led to the loss of over 1 million lives and the displacement of 2 million others. Settle for a lovely meal and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 2: Depart Kigali City for the spectacular Akagera National Park
After a wonderful rest and breakfast at the Hotel, meet your driver for a proper Kigali City Tour. You will have enough time to visit the Nyamata Genocide memorial Center, and Kigali genocide memorial Center, exercise your haggling skills at the Kamironko food market and shop for souvenirs at Inema Arts Center.
Later, head East via Rwamagana and Kayonza to Akagera National Park. This beautiful Protected Area marks the Eastern boundary of Rwanda with Tanzania and is the only home to Rwanda’s big five game and other savannah-inhabiting animals The two and half hour journey involves driving through some of the most incredible sceneries in the Eastern side of Rwanda and when you get there, you will feel the real African wilderness.

Day 3: Akagera National Park excursion- Game drives and boat rides
You will spend this wonderful day exploring Akagera National Park. Seven times as vast as Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province of Rwanda, this beautiful Protected Area is the largest Park in the country and home to diverse ecosystems (savannah plains, woodlands, Lakes, Valleys, rock kopjes as well as a wide range of animal and bird species. Akagera National Park’s highlights are game drives and boat rides, which you will enjoy on this day.
The game drive takes you through some of the wildlife-rich areas where you will encounter Hippos, Rhinos, Elephants, Buffaloes, Topis, Kobs, warthogs, Defassa waterbucks, bushbucks, duikers, zebras, Masai giraffes, lions, spotted hyenas, leopards and serval cats among others.
In the afternoon, after a lovely lunch at the Lodge, you will enjoy the boat ride along Lake Ihema with the hope of sighting Hippos and crocodiles as well as bird species like Kingfishers, African fish eagles, Pelicans, grey-crowned cranes, and many others. This eventful day ends with dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 4: Depart Akagera National Park for Kigali City, and take a flight back home
From Akagera National Park, it is a two and a half hour’s drive to Kigali International Airport. Take in more views during the short drive and arrive at the Airport for your flight back home or connection to your onward safari. Safe travels!!!
