4 Days Rwanda Chimpanzee Tracking, Our epic chimpanzee trekking adventure in Rwanda is undertaken in the incredible Nyungwe Forest National Park and rated one of the best in Africa by primate lovers. This 4-day Rwanda Chimpanzee tracking adventure to the ancient Nyungwe Forest is thrilling in that tourists get the chance to explore different landscapes inside this beautiful Protected Area. The rich biodiversity of the National Park will be clearly noticed during the trek with the constant encounters of other primate species (remember that are about 12 primate species here), birds (there are about 320 bird species), reptiles especially snakes, and amphibians especially frog species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the Airport of Kigali- Rwanda

Arrive at the incredible Kigali International Airport, where an Airport representative will meet and greet you, take you through immigration and later hand you over to the private driver. Kigali is one of the cleanest Cities in Africa, founded in 1907. The City is one of the most historical places you will visit in the country, possibly because it still has the remnants of the 1994 genocide, but also growing into one of the contemporary Cities in the African Continent. Depending on the time you arrive in Kigali, you will ever have a City tour or simply relax in the comforts of the Hotel and its environs.

  • Hotel des Mille Collines or Kigali Marriot Hotel (Midrange)

Day 2: Kigali- City excursion- Nyungwe Forest National Park, in the southern Province of Rwanda

After a wonderful breakfast, meet your driver at the Hotel lounge for a briefing and later head into Kigali City for a tour. Uncover the historical side of this City, starting with Kigali Genocide Memorial, then start the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, you will stop at the Royal Palace Museum and continue to the Park.

You can spend the rest of the day at leisure- undertake guided tours of the nearby tea plantation or relax at the Lodge to acclimatize to your natural surroundings.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Drive time: 5-6 hours.

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park- chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk

Your day of tracking Rwanda chimpanzees has finally come, start it with breakfast and meet your driver at the Lounge with your packed lunch and other trekking great. Later head to the Visitor Center for briefing. Get acquainted with the dos and don’ts of tracking these Great Apes in the animal kingdom and later embark on the search for them in their natural habitat. On your way to the chimpanzees, be on the lookout for the different primates, bird species, reptiles, and butterfly species that will definitely not miss on this trek. Take some time to admire the beautiful landscapes and natural features and after 1-4 hours of walking, the moment of truth finally arrives as chimpanzee calls become to become noticeable. Have one hour of taking photos and learning about their mesmerizing behavior and later take some time to enjoy your packed lunch.

Rest for a while and afterward join the canopy walkway for another exciting adventure as you enjoy views of tree canopies, deep gorges, and sight lots of bird species. Primates are also common during this 2-hour activity and later finish your adventurous day with a shower, dinner, and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest National Park- Kigali International Airport

After breakfast, pack your bags and depart from Nyungwe Forest National Park’s verdant environment and take a ride back to Kigali International Airport for departure. This marks the end of the 4 days Rwanda Chimpanzee tracking tour.
