Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda- the land of a thousand hills.
Welcome to beautiful Rwanda! You will have a VIP meet and greet with our Company representatives on arrival at Kigali International Airport. Later meet your safari driver outside the Airport building for a ride to your Hotel in Kigali. Spend the remainder of the day unwinding at the Hotel or exploring the quiet boulevards or vibrant streets filled with many restaurants, then enjoy dinner and overnight at the Hotel.
Overnight:
- Luxury (The Retreat or Kigali Serena Hotel).
- Moderate (Hotel des Mille Collines or the Manor Hotel).
Meals: Dinner.
Day 2: City Tour and two-hour road trip to Akagera National Park
After an amazing breakfast, make your way into the bustling City for a tour, with areas of interest being the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site. After this information and emotionally rewarding tour, get on the road to Akagera National Park in the Eastern Province of Rwanda where you will be introduced to the big five game and other thrilling creatures. Make some stops along the way for photography before being ushered to your final destination.
Be driven to the Lodge for check-in, freshening, and later hot lunch.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 3: Game viewing and the Boat ride on Lake Ihema
After breakfast, leave the Lodge and drive into Akagera National Park for a game drive where you will be introduced to the elephants, lions, Topis, warthogs, Defassa waterbucks, zebras, impalas, Hartebeests, blue monkeys, Kobs, spotted hyenas, leopards, Rhinoceros (both black and white species), buffaloes, Masai giraffes, and many others. Occasionally stop for photography and after three to four hours, return back to the Lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
In the afternoon, your adventure continues with a boat ride on lake Ihema where you will be introduced to more animals especially Hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, huge elephant herds, and outstandingly beautiful bird species. Have rest and dinner at the Lodge.

Day 4: Depart for the incredible Volcanoes National Park
You will leave Akagera National Park and drive back to Kigali City. Arrive on time, for the drive to Volcanoes National Park. There will be a short break in Kigali for an early lunch and you will arrive in Musanze Town in the evening.
Overnight at:
- One & Only Gorilla’s Nest or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge (luxury).
- Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel (midrange).
Meal Plan: Full board.
Total drive time: 5 and a half to 6 hours.
Day 5: Track the endangered mountain gorillas and visit the Gorilla Guardian Village
After breakfast, brace up to explore Volcanoes National Park through gorilla trekking, starting at Kinigi Guesthouse for a briefing on how to go about the activity. Next is driving to the trailhead and later beginning the one to five-hour trek while sighting different animal and bird species along the way. Follow the guidelines issued while tracking or spending the one hour observing and taking photos of the Great Apes. Later return to the Lodge for lunch and afternoon siesta.
In the evening, prepare to have your mind blown by the unique rural cultures of Rwandans by visiting the Gorilla Guardian Village where you will learn how to prepare local dishes, take part in cultural dances, visit the traditional healer, and many other activities. You will leave wanting more but retire for dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 6: Depart Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, transfer to Kigali International Airport to return back home or onward flight to the next safari.
